Importing a car from the US: what makes up the price
The RoyalMotors customs calculator works out more than import taxes: it shows the full turnkey cost of a car from US auctions, from the Copart or IAAI bid to certification in Ukraine. You see the total in US dollars before the auction starts and can compare it with prices for the same cars in Ukraine.
What makes up the price of a car from the US
- Lot price — the amount the car sells for at the auction.
- Auction fee — charged under Copart and IAAI fee schedules and depends on the lot price.
- Insurance — a percentage of the lot price including the auction fee.
- Shipping to Klaipėda — by truck to a US or Canadian port and by sea; carriers add a surcharge for electric and hybrid cars.
- Port services — forwarding services, documents and storage at the port.
- Delivery from Klaipėda to your city — broker included, the price depends on the city.
- Certification — a separate payment, not part of customs clearance.
- Money transfer fee — a percentage of the lot price with the auction fee and of the delivery to Klaipėda with port services.
- Customs clearance — import duty, excise, VAT and the pension fund levy at the National Bank of Ukraine rate.
- RoyalMotors commission — finding and checking the car, bidding and support until you get the keys.
How customs duties are calculated for a passenger car
For petrol, diesel and hybrid cars, import duty is 10% of the customs value. Excise depends on engine size, fuel type and the car’s age: the older the car, the higher it is. The age is counted at the customs year shown in the calculation — delivery does not change with it. VAT is 20% of the value plus duty and excise, and the pension fund levy is 3–5%. Electric cars are exempt from import duty and the pension fund levy; their excise is €1 per kWh of battery capacity, and VAT is 20%.
How to use the calculator
Two modes. “By model”: choose the make, model, year, engine and auction state; the calculator fills in the lot price (the catalog average) or you enter your own. “VIN, lot or link”: paste a VIN, lot number or Copart or IAAI link — the calculator finds the lot and fills in its price (forecast, Buy Now or final sale), which you can change. In both modes choose the delivery city; the calculator works out customs for the year shown in the calculation. The total updates instantly, and you can download a PDF (with the VIN and a photo, if there is one) or send it to a manager.
Why the result is an estimate
The final price is only known after the auction: the bid, exchange rates and carrier rates all change. That is why the calculator gives you a budget guide rather than an offer. For an exact quote on a specific lot, send it to a manager: they will check the car’s history by VIN, confirm shipping from the right yard and work out the cost before you place a bid.
A manager will check the VIN and condition and send you a turnkey estimate — free and with no prepayment.
