Frequently asked questions

Everything about buying cars from US and Canadian auctions. Can't find an answer? A manager will answer your question.

How much does a turnkey car import from the US cost?

It depends on the car, the auction state and the arrival port. Roughly: winning bid + 12–15% (auction fee) + $1,500–2,500 (US → Ukraine logistics) + customs duty/excise/VAT at the NBU exchange rate + our $500 fee. Every lot page has a detailed online calculator with all payments in USD and UAH.

What are Salvage, Rebuilt, and Clean titles?

This is the legal status of a vehicle, assigned by a US state. Clean — no major insurance claims; the most desirable. Rebuilt — the car was declared a total loss and then restored and re-inspected. Salvage — a total loss that hasn't been rebuilt; cheaper, but it needs repairs before it can be registered. We pass on Salvage Flood and Junk as too risky.

What happens to my deposit if I don't win the lot?

The deposit is refunded 100%. We don't keep it as a penalty and we don't charge a "participation fee". If you don't win the lot, the money is returned to your account within 1-2 business days.

How is IAAI different from Copart?

They are two competing auctions with overlapping inventory. Copart is bigger and has more Salvage. IAAI more often lists Clean Title cars from insurers. Pricing and logistics are similar. We work with both — we'll search for your car on both platforms.

How long does delivery from the auction to Kyiv take?

The standard window is 35-50 days. US inland logistics (from the state to the port) takes 5-10 days, the ocean leg 18-25 days, and customs clearance in Ukraine 3-7 business days. Express options are available but cost $400-600 more.

What if the car gets damaged during delivery?

All cars are insured for their full value during ocean shipping. If any damage occurs, the insurer pays compensation within 30 days. US inland logistics is also insured against transport damage.

How is the customs payment calculated in Ukraine?

Customs payment = (value + delivery) × import duty rate + excise (depends on engine and age) + 20% VAT (charged on the amount including duty and excise). We use the NBU exchange rate, the same as customs. On the lot page you see the estimated turnkey price in USD.

How long does customs clearance in Ukraine take?

Typically 3-7 business days from arrival at the port of Klaipėda. We prepare all the documents ourselves: your CMR, the invoice and the purchase agreement. All you have to do is sign the transfer and acceptance certificate.

Can I check the VIN before buying?

Yes. Before bidding, the manager checks the VIN: ownership history, accidents, mileage, service records and recalls. If the check reveals a problem, we don't bid and the deposit is returned.

Can I see the car before bidding?

We can order an inspection service at the auction (photos from 60+ angles plus a technical inspection) for $40-80. Being there in person is harder to arrange — you'd need a visa and a local partner. Usually the VIN report and the auction photos are enough to make a decision.
